Video counselling is a way to see me from your computer, laptop or smart phone, whilst engaging in therapy.
Telephone counselling is similar but takes place over the phone and without the use of a camera.
Email counselling is a way to share your thoughts and feelings through the written word. The counsellor reads and reflects upon your words and sends a reply on an agreed day and time, usually 48 hours later.
About me and my practice
If I had to put my counselling approach into just a few words, it would be...
"My counselling approach is informed by two theories which blend together to explore, who you are and how you exist"
Humanistic- this theory believes we must seek our own answers and solutions to live our best lives. A life that provides meaning, purpose and growth. Uncovering those answers is where counselling comes in.
Existential- this theory seeks to explore how we choose to see the world and exist within it; our values, morals, beliefs and choices. Counselling can allow you to explore if any of the principles you hold, or the choices you make, are preventing you from living the life you want to live. What is holding you back? What changes can you make? What must you accept that cannot be changed?
I work with UK residing adult minimum age 18 years.
I have a personal and professional interest in how animals can provide us with mental health support. I currently have two miniature dachshund dogs who are in training to become visiting therapy dogs within the Bridgend and surrounding area. Research is ever emerging to provide us with the evidence that being around animals has a beneficial effect on both our mental and physical health. Please ask me about this. I support the presence of animals, where possible, to be in the therapy space with you.
I am interested in energy healing, reiki, meditation and breath work practices. I am attuned in reiki level one and crystal reiki. This allows me to practice reiki on friends and family.
Experience
I have experience of working with a range of mental health difficulties, within different settings, from a national charity to Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP). I set up my private practice in 2020 and invested my time in developing my competency to work remotely via video link and telephone. I have since undertaken professional training to now be able to offer counselling by email.

Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional Training (PESI): Applied Neuroscience for Treating Anxiety, Panic, and Worry (Online Course) '22.
Online and Telephone Counselling Course 2020.
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling 2018.

Initial Consultation
Initial consultation appointments last around 20 minutes and are free of charge. During this time we can discuss your expectations and requirements for counselling. It is also a time to share any worries or concerns that you may have towards starting counselling. We can also discuss which method of counselling you feel would suit you best. If I believe that another counselling approach may suit you better, I will share this with you at this time. To ensure you get the best from counselling it is important to find the right counsellor who you feel you will work best with. I always encourage individuals to speak with several counsellors before making the final decision.
Fees
Sessions are up to one hour in duration and are charged at £45 per session. Sessions usually take place on an agreed day and time on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
